I have a super cute house that DH & I (plus our amazing building crew & super fabulous friends) worked very hard on. The rooms were each planned carefully and then the house was designed to make the most of the space. I love being home with just my family and enjoying life together. But I also LOVE to have it filled with friends & family...eating, laughing, playing games...and of course Scrapbooking!
At our former home my craft area shared space with our laundry area and our back porch/mudroom/barn closet. Oh and pantry!
This time I have a dedicated spot. I can leave a project midway and no one will put a stack of laundry on it. Or the mail. Or their snack. Yeah, life happens that way in a multipurpose area. And it worked for me for a very long time, but I'm thrilled to now be able to have a fantastic space!
First off, I have a ton of storage. I live in the country. If I run out of adhesive (gasp!), I cannot go get some very easily. The nearby town (25 minutes away) currently has a little scrapbook store, but it's sort of limited. And to be honest....the stores have come and gone so much in the last 5 years that it's hard to know from one day to the next. So I buy in bulk and store it. And then I shop a little more. :)
I have great lighting. I have ample space for friends to come and papercraft with me (shout out to my girls!). And I have a permanent place for my sewing machine to stay up, a spot for the Cricut (that I still have not mastered....come help me Carin), just a space for everything.
Now while I have a beautiful space, I'm also very frugal. I repurpose things often. I buy on sale. And I even purchased a really cool desk from a local cabinetry design center. It just so happened to be their design counter and was absolutely huge. So huge that it would have taken my whole room.
So far I have put a long table in the center of the room and just used that. Then I brought the cabinet bases in and got a feel for how it would work in the room. I'm so glad I did that. When first measured out on graph paper I thought I wanted it a certain length. But after working between two bases (putting a table top over them so I could make a mock desk) in my wheeled office chair....it was just a little too tight. So I grabbed the masking tape and started over, measuring and planning. Meanwhile DH got a fantastic new table saw for Christmas....so I think he can do my 'remodeling' on the bases & table top.
All that to say, my room is still a work in progress. Yes it's new. Yes it's perfect. Yes, it's still evolving into what I really want it to be. Yes, I'm going to share it with you. :)
Here's what you see when you walk in:
Then directly to my left I have two big closets...like this:
Straight ahead:
Directly to the right of that:
And then looking back toward the doorway:
And the wall to the right of the doorway (as you are coming in the room):
I love to organize! When I get a chance I will show you a few of my organizing finds that keep things at the ready for me to use. :)
Thanks for taking a peek at my space with me!
